A friend and I went camping in North Idaho, not too far from here, this weekend. Some people think we're crazy for going so early in the spring. We may be, but this way we can avoid the idiots who go out there to party almost every weekend in the summer. The kind of people who leave their campground littered with broken beer bottles and spent shell casings are not the kind of people I want to camp with or have camping anywhere near me. The weather is usually a bit messy, but it's not bad if you're prepare. I expected it to rain about half the time, but actually it didn't rain on us at all. We got the occasional snow flurry, more like light hail, some wind, and it was a bit on the cold side, but since we were dressed for the occasion, it was really rather pleasant.
Of course, without a fire, it would be down right miserable.
Here's my friend crossing a log. He made it across. If he hadn't, I would have some cool action shots for you, but our little hike would've been cut short.
On Saturday, the weather was great. The birds in the meadow were enjoying the warm sun that woke the ants from their slumber and set them back to work.
When I finished shooting these ants, the lanyard of my camera was coated with ants. Fortunately I didn't get bit.
This little guy just didn't want to sit still and have his picture taken. This is the only shot I was able to get of him, and it's not that great.
